The Issues at Stake: Voting Rights – Research and Journalism

Research on Voting Rights:

For reliable and updated research and analysis, the Brennan Center and Pew Research Center are two of the top sources to follow on a wide range of voting rights and electoral issues. 

The journalists to follow on voting rights

  • Ari Berman, author of Give Us the Ballot and senior contributor to The Nation, is always a reliable source to check. Follow him on Twitter.
  • David Daley, author of Ratf**ked about gerrymandering, and Unrigged about how Americans are fighting against gerrymandering, is the former editor-in-chief of Salon, and currently the Communications Director for Fair Vote.
  • Greg Palast, author of The Best Democracy Money Can Buy:  A Tale of Billionaires and Ballot Bandits. 2016. Check his website and follow him on Twitter.

Journals following voting rights issues:

  • ProPublica. Runs the Electionland Project which tracks voting problems in real time.  They did this for the 2016 and 2018 elections.
  • Mother Jones covers voting rights issues and usually provides live updates on voting issues at the polls.
  • Daily Kos regularly posts articles on Voter Suppression
