STATEMENT FROM DEMOCRATS ABROAD UK REGARDING SUPREME COURT DECISION TO OVERTURN ROE VS WADE
23 June 2022 (LONDON) – Democrats Abroad UK issued the following statement today regarding the United States Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe vs Wade:
‘The SCOTUS decision to overturn Roe v Wade is a major blow against gender equality and the age-old struggle for women to achieve the right to control our own lives and destinies. It rolls back 50 years of progress and leaves the United States as one of a handful of developed countries where access to safe and legal abortion services is no longer guaranteed.
The majority of Americans – regardless of party – oppose this decision, and rightly so, because women should have the right to make our own health decisions, control our own bodies and have reproductive freedom. This SCOTUS decision reflects an extreme ideology and is simply unacceptable in a modern society.
This is just the tip of the iceberg – expect more decisions aimed at curbing the civil rights of minorities, which generations before us have fought to secure. Republicans have promised to eliminate abortion everywhere; several states have already enacted its anti-abortion law this afternoon.
This, and the civil liberties of all Americans, will be on the ballot this November. We urge all American voters who believe that the US can and should be a beacon of light for democracy, equality and egalitarianism to vote Democrat this November.

Please request your overseas ballot and join your fellow Americans in Democrats Abroad UK who oppose the regressive policies such as the one delivered by the Supreme Court today.
