Democrats Abroad Women’s Caucus Stands with Abortion Rights UK
October 2, 2021
Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.

The Women’s Caucus of Democrats Abroad UK invited our members to attend Abortion Rights UK’s rally to protest the Texas abortion law and support reproductive rights. DAUK Chair Wen Wen Lindroth spoke in front of the US Embassy to thank our pro-choice allies and asked them to encourage all their US citizen friends to join Democrats Abroad and vote from abroad in every election, because our votes make a difference.

It is a fact that feminism has made many strides in the last 100 years, but that for every two steps forward, we take one step back. This terrible law that has been passed in Texas banning abortion, for any reason, from six weeks on is nothing less than the patriarchy striking back in the waning days of its power. It is and should be cause for alarm; we know that women and families, particularly those most vulnerable, will suffer the most – roughly 70% of abortions in Texas are choices made by women of color. They are the least able to afford the impact of the Texas abortion ban. What’s happened in that state will affect the lives of no less than 7m women of childbearing age and their families.
The pace of right-wing challenges to a women’s right to choose is accelerating – at least 90 bills restricting abortion rights have passed in the US this year, more than any other year since Roe v Wade in 1973. Patriarchy has been emboldened. It falls upon us to use our agency and to turn back the tide on these shameless attempts to control the bodies and destinies of women.
I ask you now, to join us in Democrat Abroad UK in this battle for freedom, to join with us in our efforts to ensure that policies of justice are passed”
