Chair’s Corner April 2021

We are so excited that Emily Kulesa has been elected as our Co-Chair! Read her first Chair’s Corner here.

Hello Everyone!

I am thrilled to be writing my first Chair’s Corner for you all. I am really excited to be taking on the mantle of co-chair with Katherine and am excited about the future of the Women’s Caucus!

A little bit about me for those who do not know me yet. Originally from Long Island, New York, I moved to the UK at 17 to study Sustainable Development at the University of St Andrews. After my course I moved down to London for my masters and to work at a national environmental charity. I am now a software engineer who is passionate about how technology can be a force for good.

Having been co-chair for a few months now, I have been able to run a few wonderful events, including the first two meetings of our new Podcast Club! I have lots of plans for the caucus and am looking forward to seeing what we can do in 2021!

I have a few main goals that I would like to achieve as co-chair. Firstly, I am so proud of all the hard work our members put in to help Democrats take back the White House in 2020. We used our activism skills to make a real difference back home. For 2021, I want to highlight how the Women’s Caucus and Democrats Abroad can take action and bring expats together in between election years. We are currently working on slates of events that focus on current events, activism, and skill building. By having a diverse slate of events, we can ensure there is truly an event for anyone looking to get involved with the Women’s Caucus.

I am also thrilled to see so many new regional groups being founded across the UK. While many of our events have been focused on London, the virtual formats we have used over the past year have allowed us to connect with American women living across the UK. For this year, we really want to focus on connecting with these women and expanding our reach.

Of course, the 2022 midterms are around the corner. I am looking forward to connecting with our members to strengthen our knowledge and craft new and innovative ways to participate in activism to make sure our voices are heard!

I welcome any member who has ideas for events, content, or simply wants to get involved. Email me at [email protected] with all your amazing ideas!

I look forward to seeing all of you at the next Women’s Caucus meeting!

– Emily
